Easter Bonnet

When I was a child growing up in the UK, one of the things we used to do at school was make Easter Bonnets. I remember various school, church or village gatherings where little children would wear their bonnets, constructed out of any assortment of craft materials, fabric and glue. There were no rules (although chick, egg and rabbit themes were popular) and it was a chance to let your creativity run free.

This year I’ve spent my Easter weekend trying to recreate a vintage fairisle beret using my own hand-dyed yarns. I finally finished it and blocked it last night. As it turned out, the colours are very much like the pastel spring shades of my childhood Easter bonnets, and the design definitely has a British flavour.

I’m planning to offer a pattern for this beret very soon, and what do you think of a kit with all the yarn you need to make one yourself?

…Happy Easter!

It turned out fabulous! Can’t wait to try out the pattern!

    • Will give you a kit to test :-)
I was also thinking of doing it in white or baby pink (plus fair isle contrasting pattern)

Incidentally, the one thing I ever won was the Easter hat contest one year at primary school. I remember it well!
